Every time I try to record a film on Sky Movies, I get the “Enter your pin number” message at the bottom of the screen and the film doesn't come on until you enter this pin number.  I phoned sky about this and basically asked them if I could get rid of this procedure as it was inconvenient.  They told me that it was for parental control and it goes on all night until early morning.

Sky Movies PIN number

I don't have any children living at home (they are all grown up now and even if I did have young ones in the house, I don't think they would be up all night watching movies on Sky.  So I’m starting to wonder if they are really doing this to stop you recording films when you are not there.  Well if that’s NOT the case, then why can't you override this annoying pin number?

I only used to record films because I wasn’t around at the time they were broadcast and wanted to watch them later on - at my convenience!  They have basically taken away your right to choose when and where you watch the film and I for one will probably cancel my sky subscription because of this.  Without the facility to record films unattended Sky Movies isn't really any good to me.

Besides, the amount of new movies you get on there each month is actually decreasing so when I think about it, is it really worth £36 per month?  Also, I think the service you get from Sky is getting worse anyway.  Just ask anyone who has tried to phone Sky customer service with a fault or a complaint recently.  It’s not a pleasant experience and has been going that way for years and years with no sign of improving in my opinion!

I too have the same gripe as Mr Algie; trying to record a movie to watch later at my convenience has proved to be impossible. I was told by one of the customer service operators to go into Services, then down to Parental Control and/or Viewing Restrictions and remove the lock. I had done this some time ago; and removed any locks visible, however, it does not make any difference and out of the movie channels the following were locked 301, 303, 304, 306, 307, 309, 310 & 314. There does not seem to be any pattern - what is going on??

As Mr Algie has already said, if you are away from the television when the film starts, all you have on the screen is enter PIN no. I too feel that maybe I will cancel my subscription. I feel that the customer service offered is dreadful, nothing gets resolved and the customer is left with mounting frustration.

We are a two adult household, what do we need parental control for? Sky - you have taken away our right to record and watch movies as and when is convenient. As a Carer in the Community, working nights I feel I am penalised for not working "office" hours. I am fully aware of the restriction on recording Box Office movies, and appreciate that as they are current movies, if we recorded them, it would be detrimental to Sky's revenue. If the movie channels are not for recording, then I think this should be made very clear to Sky customers at the very beginning.

It should be so simple, Sky should allow customers to opt-out of the auto pin before watershed so that they can fulfill regulations that they are not subjecting minors to graphical content whilst allowing their maturer customers the flexibility to record and watch as suits them.

This annoys me. It doesn' t take any effort whatsoever to enter a FOUR digit number into the control. I certainly wouldn't want my five year old watching something I didn't approve of. I think it's a good idea. Does everything have to be so 'automatic'?'It's just lazy

Take out your sky card, and look at the last 4 digits of the number. Thats you pin.

As a virgin media customer I am counting the days until I can join up with sky again. Yes their pin for the movies is naff, but better than Virgins pin attempt, yes they are greedy but I was with sky for 5 years, and I didnt have to argue my bill every month.
Phoning sky is a hassle? Try Virgin Media, I have to write at least once a month and it has to be sent special delievery at a cost of £4.30 - recorded delievery letters dont get signed by virgin media for some reason and they deny receiving all post unless you can prove they signed for it. Sky will respond to letters in the end, Virgin media only respond to county court summons.
Sky has to be the better of the two evils.

you must call customer services to get the pin changed to a number you can pick yourself, it will take 24 hours to change over.

Does anyone have an update on the SKY Movies pin number situation. Being forced to enter it is stupid as there is no kids in the house. Its a rip off and stops me recording. What idiots invented this farce ?
*Gareth Bruce  21-Aug-2007 05:06

I'm glad to find these comments about recording PIN protected films as I was starting to go mad trying to work it out particulary after the "experts" at Sky customer services told me that putting your PIN in when watching the recording would give access (the idiot was wrong). Given this restriction I certainly will not renew sky movies.
*Tony  21-Jul-2007 20:18

Theres no way to get around the pin protected movies man, its all across the board so that sky can show movies before the watershead with higher age ratings. I can see why it would be innoying to be honest (oh yea... I dont have sky! :D).

If you ever want your pin its the last 4 digets of the viewing card number by default (Press services, then press 4 on the remote, then 5 and it will be listed on screen)

Or if like some people youve changed it and now forgot what you changed it too, just ring broadband customer services, they can change it plus there wont be as a que like with TV customer services.

But agreed... if it where me I would just rent DvDs!
