Is there an uglier male fashion than a smart suit worn with an unbuttoned shirt and no tie?  Almost invariably displayed on television nowadays by politicians and newscasters attempting to look "cool and with it", the actual result is that we are obliged to stare at several inches of pallid neck, bobbing Adam's apple and sparsely haired chest - thus distracting us from the seriousness of the news story.

Men should button up their shirt and wear a tie

It's noticeable that this style of undress has largely become the habit of middle aged men (John Prescott is now doing it - heaven help us!).  It can't be long, therefore, before style-conscious younger men switch to something more becoming than a smart suit and an unbuttoned shirt.

May I suggest two alternatives to this scruffy fashion?  Try the Nehru Jacket which was very popular in the 70's – this style of jacket is actually based on the Indian sherwani apparently (see Wikipedia).  It's smart, attractive and colourful, not to mention the fact that the high collar covers up those nasty double chins and unattractive wobbly throats perfectly!

Alternatively, how about the exquisitely-tied cravats worn by those 18th-Century dandies?  At any rate though, let’s loose the scruffy unbuttoned shirt thing and let's bring tasteful good looks back to our television screens!

there is no need for there to be an awful stench if you use talc, anti-persparant or foot and shoe spray

"The sockless trend is really big this summer. Plimsoles are a massive fashion trend and wearing them with socks is a serious n no."

That explains that awful stench!

The sockless trend is really big this summer. Plimsoles are a massive fashion trend and wearing them with socks is a serious n no. Boat shoes are big as well, again you do not wear socks with these either as the are designed for sockless wear an look crap with socks. The more fashionable guys wear their lace ups with no socks or no show socks with suits, jeans, whatever, I will continue to wear my lace ups with my shirt and tie until th eweather turns for the worst.

I think going sockless is ok if you like the way it feels and looks. Not sure what the big deal is if a guy does not wear socks. I have sported the look before and I like it.

I was wondering about starting a new fashion for middle aged men. Wear a smart suit, with tie, but wear the trousers halfway down the thighs showing off a pair of designer white Y-Fronts, what do ya reckon, will it take off?

1984, 32 inch waist black leather trousers, black leather jacket, white shirt, buttoned fully, black leather tie, (nightclubbing attire)

2010, 48 inch waist asda £6 trousers, any shirt that still fits, no chance of doing up the buttons, I was good in my day.

But tell me why it matters if this particular topic reaches 10,000 posts? Yes. it has a high number of posts, and yes, that is in no small way to my contributions. However, there is no way to delete old posts as in some forums, so the comments keep getting added to.

Even if it does turn into a conversation between two or three guys, why does it matter? This topic lies dormant for months at a time and then suddenly kicks into life for a time. If someone wants to engage in conversation with me or anyone else for that matter for a few days, does it matter? There are loads of other topics to discuss. I can't see the problem myself.

Am I destroying scarce space on this forum as a whole?

Look at the date of the 23rd or 24th previous comment.... it's 8 months ago!

How loose, The issue is not about anybody discussing shirts and ties, and it is immaterial if it is gay or not. The point at issue is people like you and craig filling up the comments page with dozens of comments in an ongoing conversation that is only of interest to the pair of you.

Perhaps you could at least limit it to two or three comments per day?
*Mr Hicks  15-Apr-2010 19:41

There are no innuendos, no euphemisms, nothing untoward - just guys wanting to discuss shirts and ties, and observations in how others wear them.

There are loads of topics here that do not interest me one iota. If folks are coming in and starting comments about this being a gay site, why come in at all? If this particular chat does not interest you, don't bother saying anything. Leave it to those who wish to contribute to the topic.

MikeP comes in every now and again.... so what?.... he's ignored. In fact we've had interesting conversations about grammar in the past.

BTW, my wife hooted when she heard it was being labelled as a 'gay site'.

Craig.... are you still around? Anything to contribute? Good to share with you until thiese interruptions.

Kit, In the past, but admittedely, not for the last six weeks or so, it was not an uncommon thing to go through the comments list for the day and only see an ongoing dialogue between two or sometimes three males. That was what I was referring to as "selfish".

If you tap "gay code" into your google bar and research the subject, you will find that referrences to articles of clothing and how they can be worn and combined are a coded way for gay men to chat and flirt.
