Don't blame the government for common sense

What wonderful weather we have had these past 4 weeks..young children should be able to play in the playgrounds of their nursuries.....oops maybe not... At 15oC in the sun, its 'too hot' so they are stuck in doors even though the parents provided sunscreen.. Not the nursuries fault, its just that if I child gets sunburnt and the parent makes a 'complaint' then its the nursury staff's heads in the guillotine.. When I was younger (80s-90's) I fell over in school and scraped my hands and knees, I carried on. We used to fish down drains for 'treasure' we used to pick blackberries from bushes by the roads and eat them there and then, where back in those days cars used to run on LEADED petrol (4 Star) thus emitting lead fumes and scattering them everywhere. We had metal toy cars, if you put them in your mouth to chew it would hurt. Primary schools used drawing pins and stapels rather than blutac. Chalk instead of drywipe markers The mass majority of us are living, breathing today. Wonder what nanny states children generation will grow up to be like? Childish adults who will be found in A&E only to be told that a paper cut isnt actually an emergency.

Not to mention the ladies of Gloucester Cathedral Flower Guild who will no longer be arranging (and buying out of their own pockets) the flowers in the Cathedral as they have refused to undergo CRB checks.

These were deemed necessary because the esteemed ladies share the loos used by the choir and therefore might be infiltrated by paedophiles.

An amateur dramatic group has to find lock-up storage for two plastic toy swords; and in Huddersfield, citizens have to barricade the road before binmen will take away rubbish bags that didn't fit correctly into the wheelie bins, although the surplus is entirely due to the said binmen having been on strike and omitting the last collection.

As we face the onset of yet another wet and windy British Autumn, the trees are beginning to shed their leaves.

The solution to this obvious health and safety risk?

Errm...sweep up the leaves?

Yes, but only if you are a specially trained Nanny professional.

The good people of Blakenall have discovered that the "simple" task of sweeping up their own leaves, and placing them into garden recycling bins, is fraught with hazards.This action contravenes Walsall Council's policy wrt leaves. Seemingly the local binmen have told the residents to stop sweeping up the leaves, because its "against the rules".

Nanny's rules are documented in some publication entitled "Street Pride" (what has a leaves policy got to do with a gay festival?), anyhoo it seems that Nanny forbids leaves from the highway being placed into brown bins.

For why?

The danger of "contamination".

Those who break Nanny's rules...yes, you've guessed what comes next.. face a fine of up to £1K.

Now here's where it gets really confusing, council guidelines state that grass cuttings, tree and shrub prunings, old plants and flowers, hedge clippings, weeds and leaves from residents' own gardens can be put into brown bins.Needless to say, now that the media have got involved, the council have realised they look like prats and council leader Mike Bird has called for a common sense approach.

Why do councils only remember "commonsense" when they have been under the glare of embarrassing publicity?

It's all bollocks anyway. Some refuse around the country, carefully separated by taxpayers, is simply mixed up again and shipped off to India to be dumped in a landfill.

Councils are perpetrating a money making con on their local taxpayers wrt the rules about waste separation.

Sorry to disagree with you tallulah but on my own small high street here in south London we have that problem.Theres always a few men stood outside the witherspoons.I know they mean no harm but it does Look a tad sleazy and sinister.The smoking ban should not apply to Pubs.

My local council is planning to limit the amount of people allowed to stand outside pubs smoking because passers by feel 'threatened'. What the hell, man?

The latest piece of poorly thought out drivel is to increase the price of alcohol to prevent yobs getting drunk. It wouldn't occur to the authorities that what is required to prevent anti-social behaviour is education, policing, and discipline. I pay £10-15 for a bottle of wine as I prefer quality to quantity, and £30-40 for a decent whisky, which lasts me for months. Why should I now be forced to pay double just because teenage chavs go out and get ratted on coolers or cheap lager or whatever the crap is that they drink?

This 'government' has lost the plot - if it ever had one.

The UK stands on the brink. Justice and common sense from our leaders is a dream. The people stand as accusers and as the accused. We have become weak. The nanny state is all we deserve, it is the child we have given birth to. Thos of us who wish to step forward to take up the heavy burden find no friends in the current political system. What is the answer.....?

The Age of Destitution is just around the corner. The Big Issue will be the number one best seller. Already today in the City the number of vagrants on the pavements is way up on previous years.

Hey buddy can you spare a Dime?

They stare at you as you use the ATMs. They are just waiting for you to make a mistake. Slumdogs they are not but the favellas are not far away.

The Age of Responsibility is well and truly over. The government themselves have created this mentality by constantly trying to micro-manage our lives and "nanny" us: Telling us what to eat, drink, smoke, which drugs to take or not take, how to drive, what we should or shouldn't do on our computers, bla bla blah. The (wrong) message being sent out is that we are by default incapable of having responbsibility for our own actions, and whenever something goes wrong, it's always "somebody else's fault" for not putting in place procedures or policies to stop it happening.

Young criminals, for example are no longer blamed for their own actions. It's the parent's fault. Or the governments fault. Or the fault of the local authority not providing a "youth club" for them.

Obese people blame McDonalds for their fatness, instead of admitting its their own fault for eating too many burgers.

People on benefits blame everybody and anybody for their situation, when in reality they're an able bodied person who is perfectly capable of a hard day's work.

The Age of Responsibility is over. In fact, Responsibility isn't even in the vocabulary of most people in the UK any more. It's tragic, it's frustrating, it's deeply sad. But it's true.

The Government is just waiting for the electorate to suggest these ideas. It loves power. Every suggestion of this type is giving the State extra powers which it is eager to take.

Expecting the government to handle your problems just paves the way for them to have the power to do so. Want benefits so you don't have to work for a living? Fine, but realise that the Government and tax payers who fund it now OWN your life (since their paying for you to keep living) Everyone has a right to live, but no one has a right to be carried from cradle to grave by a body set up originally to further human interests.

This is very true. I actually saw a man put his 2 year old child on the supermarket checkout conveyor belt along with all the glass jars and sharp objects - an accident waiting to happen I thought. This was very dangerous but it does not mean all supermarkets should take out it conveyor belts, however if this child had fallen and seriously hurt themselves I feel that this father should have been held personally accountable for it. Instead he would probably got a large insurance payout and all the conveyor belts would have been removed from instore - stop the madness!!

Too right.. People do need to take responsability for their own actions.. If you are fat..Get on a diet and get some exercise done. Nobodys fault but your own. If you want kids get a job and support them yourself. Unemployed parents with 5 or 6 kids sponging off the state makes me sick. This is one of the main culprits to our over populated country.. THE DAMN BENEFITS SYSTEM!!!!

I walked into a door a few weeks ago because I was distracted by a female on the other side of the road with large breasts in a tight T-Shirt. I mean what was she doing she should have more common sense than to wear this type of dangerous clothing!

The problem is that the world is filled with stupid people who need to rely on others to survive. If you got rid of all of the stupid people and stopped depending on the government, the world would stop!!

first of all the phrase accident is convient word for carelessness , all accidents can be traced back to carelessness.don't wantcrap to happen to you ..be more carefull. as for car chashes, drunks , and dog bites being around since adam and eve , dogs maybe , cars haven't been around all the long , bout 100 years , which is not that long , however the amout of dammage they do to the planet is incredible (see greenhouse gas)as for drunks well they're just plain stupid ,drink till you get stupid there's a fun thing to do. seatbelts on planes ..a grand waste of money,with or without seatbelts if you hit something at 100 plus miles per hour organs are torn from thier proper place just from inertia .as for obesse people, pretty sure gluttony is a mortal sin your going to hell porker, stop eating more than your share.GRIPPED

I completley agree with the griper. There is too much of "it was somebodys else's fault" in todays society. Don't want to be in a car crash - don't get in a car! Look where you are going instead of blaming the council for not fixing the wonky kerb etc etc! Some of the scenarios mentioned in the original gripe happen but they are pure accidents. Life is full of a series of accidents, if it wasn't it would be neither interesting or worth being a part of.

I've had enough of gripes like this. It's about time the Government did something to stop postings from people like this on the Internet. Bandwidth-wasters that's what these people are.
