Prison overcrowding, but I don't feel sorry for them

Is it just me or am I the only person not thinking about the prison inmates having to slop out their own mess every day?  Who cares about prison overcrowding and the "oh so terrible" conditions that prisoners have to endure?  Yes, it may be full to capacity but it's not meant to be a cushy stay in a hotel you know!

We keep on hearing time and time again from all the do-gooders about over crowding and people living in antiquated conditions.  Oh yes, and I just bet that there are millions of people at home right now really feeling sorry for those poor rapists and murderers all locked away in their cells.

Of course when I get back home to my nice warm house which I've paid for by hard work and honest toil, I really do feel bad and think about those poor unfortunates that are locked up because they've robbed, raped or murdered someone.

Prison overcrowding, so what? can't do the time, then they shouldn't do the crime..

Hello, isn’t it time for a reality check here?  I mean for goodness sake...  If they can't do the time, then they shouldn't do the crime.

Quite frankly, prison's too good for the majority of them and I think that our time and money should be spent on more deserving individuals.  If you want to talk about human rights, let us at least focus on the rights of the victims and not the dregs of society.  If there's one thing that annoys me these days, people concentrating on all the wrong things and ignoring the obvious!

Yo Inmate - I heard that before the police cause you upset so you will start to disagree with them & then bang they nick you for some silly public order offence !
That Jackie smith needs to be sued for that public order offence - it's a silly piece of law that's open to abuse .
Maybe her husband should be fined for watching poo0rnn on our money ?

'Inmate' has a grudge against the legal system because they prosecuted him SUCCESSFULLY for something he did. How stupid 'not fully aware of the consquences of the crime you committed', should have thought about that before you committed it.

Prisons are overcrowded because of the ridiculous implementation of the laws in this country. Did you know there was a law against having a difference of opinion with a policeman? Did you know that some police provoke citizens into rowing with them? Did you know that they then invite you to a magistrate court? Did you know that there is absolutely no justice whatsoever to be experienced in magistrate's court? The whole proceeding is stacked against you. You are not invited properly to defend yourself. You are not made fully aware of the consequences of the "crime" you have committed. I pleaded "not guilty" as the policeman was entirely provocative. I had not used violence in anyway. I was sent to prison. Yes, a full custodial sentence all because of a vain copper.

Well it cost the state a fortune. If the state chooses to waste its money in this fashion then UK lives in Cloud Cuckoo Land. Magistrate's Courts are useless. The penal system is gross. The country is morally bankrupt.

Waste of taxes prison get them out and working for free , painting schools ,hospitals, filling pot holes , clearing snow the list goes on .
Give them hope of a job & future and hopefully that should work . Alot of people in prison just need a path to follow & hopefully Mr ken will give then that .
Stop paying lazy council staff when you can do it for free .

On the other hand the "criminals" would get cold food, and be left alone and unsupervised. The lights would be turned off at 8pm, and they'd have a shower once a week.  They'd live in a tiny room and pay £900 a month for the privilege.  They'd have no hope of ever getting out.  Justice for all, we'd say.

Let's put the seniors in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.  This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks. They'd get unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheelchairs etc., and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.  They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly if they fell or needed assistance.  Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them. A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.  They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.  They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool and education.  Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free on request.  Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard and gardens.  Each senior could have a PC, a TV, radio and daily phone calls.

Very wealthy people avoid taxes and leave ordinary income people to shoulder the cost of plans like yours, to board and feed the dross.

"Anon, well if they decide after a bit of prison education to commit a bit more crime when they are released, then under my plans they would be locked up again, this time for a lot longer,"

You must be a very wealthy person.

Gainsborough lad. You would prefer to lock up addicts with murderers.
In the meantime, celebrities and famous people and very, very rich people do not have to look for money to pay for their addictions. Instead, they check themselves into a luxury place to detox.
Thank god some of us have money!

" I would say that whilst a criminal is locked up inside a prison cell, prison is doing its job exceptionally well"

No, even that is not that great because petty offenders come out having rubbed shoulders with, and learned from scum from higher up the food chain. And you pay for this "education".

GL, You make it sound as if burglars and petty criminals are worse than murderers and rapists.
Have you got a lot of very important material possession to protect?

A "pint of cold cola" (anon, shakes head in dismay at this confession). Well I suppose it might help de-fur that wandering tongue.

But on subject, I do feel sad when I hear about prisoners, but of course only because of the tax it takes to house them all. Prison doesn't work and it was only financially fair to citizens when the conditions were harsh. Punishment for crime needs a rethink. It needs to be effective or profitable but preferably both.

You obviously know right from wrong? Heck no! I can see that you have a chip on your shoulders and blame everyone for everything.
What help are you to anyone. Just mull away in your own small world of "purity".

Bravo Gl, you are one of those 'do-gooders'. I don't drink alcohol but I do not patronise people who get sucked into it.
