Media censorship on the Daily Mail

I'm getting a little fed up with the Daily Mail website. When I'm posting comments on some of the stories they are censored even though what I'm saying is a valid point.

One story appeared recently saying that there is research out saying chest x-rays are not always successful in diagnosing early stage lung cancer and that some patients may need to go back for further x-rays.

Someone commented that this is yet more evidence that the NHS was a complete failure.

Normal Xray of chest. Heart in the centre.

As an x-ray student I thought I'd reply and put the message straight.  I said that this is a piece of research which is pointing out that our current methods of diagnosing lung cancer are not always successful and should be taken on board so we can improve best practice.  Did my comment get published?  No!

The Mail says that education standards are falling.  Well, if they are going to encourage incorrect viewpoints on their website and not publish anything from anyone who looks like they know what they're talking about, I'm not surprised that people are lacking in the grey cells department!

James.

It is "censor" not "sensor."

I trust that you level of education as an "X ray student" (whatever that may be) is somewhat better than your grammar.

I've experience the same problem even though my comments are what some might describe as politically correct. If they use software to eliminate comments using certain sensitive words, it would be great to see the list!

Some words I suspect they censor include Saudi Arabia, New World Order, Glenn Beck, The Vatican, and any references to the Her Majesty the Queen, and Pharaohs :-)

Mr, Fair Comment.

I can assure you that comments are censored for reasons other than poor spelling and grammar. Very often comments left by readers make it on to the site and are then taken down. Occasionally his is because they are borderline offensive but in the majority of cases the reason isn't clear.

One of my guilty pleasures is wasting time when I should be working sharing my thoughts on the comments boards below news stories on the Mail, Guardian and Telegraph. Of the three papers only the Guardian employs a truly free forum for comment. Both the Mail and the Telegraph heavily sensor the comments often leading to a lag time of hours before comments are published (or not). The Guardian is the only online paper that publishes first and sensors later.

It's a shame that the Guardian is the paper that sensors it's own news content the most out of any paper on the news stand spewing out a predictable left leaning agenda regardless of the real facts. But that's the nature of our media, unfortunate if you truly want to acquire a rounded view of world events the last thing you should do is read just the one paper and go out and take the time to read the papers you disagree with.

The Daily Mail censors comment HEAVILY. One just has to ask why?

The Daily Heil, it should be called. It's far-right Nazi propaganda disguised as a newspaper and it's readers are the scum of the earth

James, you're entirely right. It's happened several times now that I write very polite, well-worded comments on the Mail website that were outright censored. Half of it cut out, just the part that supports a conservative or a least moderate viewpoint. I lodged a complaint but of course never heard back. Don't waste your time, they do political propaganda, that's all.

The Daily Fail is the worst newspaper in Britain, they are virtually the UK's answer to Fox News.

Mr, Fair Comment,
I have quite a lot of experience of this and other comment/forum sites. To answer your question-yes-if you do make spelling/grammar mistakes somebody probably will highlight it.this unfortunately happens on all such sites.personally I could not care less about the odd spelling mistake as long as the point being made is valid(even if I disagree with the point being made).I can"t help thinking though that such people are unknowingly helping you because they force you to actually check a dictionary on words you are not entirely certain of.To quote the Irish political philosopher edmund burke"are antagonists are,are greatest helpers"

Statesman Journal.com is that way in Salem Oregon. It's mostly run by Lefties and if you don't agree your either ignored or made fun off.
Even if you don't say anything that should be taken in an offensive way. :(

I just browse thru and see it happen to other people.

I once just asked a simple question about a digital newspaper archive on their forum.
I always double check my posts so I won't have to edit it and a person was rude and made fun of 1 (ONE) (UNO) typo.
It was one typo in a 3 paragraph suggestion and the typo was at the last sentence when my fingers got tired.

That person had no right to make me feel bad especially since he did not post anything in relation to my topic about newspaper archives. If he at least helped me answer my question I wouldn't have been so upset.

I thought about screaming inappropriate stuff but I decided that his group of (yes people) will gang up against me and it will get the staff to side with the user.

I wonder if this site has it's (yes people) problem?

Hi
I can't find the survey and wanted to enter the draw. I went to harvester in Puttenham, was served by a delightful lady called Paula. The service was great I watched paula serving the other customers she delt with every customer with respect and politness but still made everyone feel very relaxed. The food was much better than the last time I visited the restaurant too. well done you have a great team working at the Puttenham branch. I wanted to vote for Paula
can you pass this on to the survey team.

Daily mail is indeed crap. I remember posting a few comments on an article about some shoppers moaning about the head of Sainsbury's getting a large bonus, something along the lines of:
"You guys can get huge bonuses too, once you become head of a chain of supermarkets..."

Comment wasn't even published.

That's what you get for dealing with the Daily Mail! Read the paper - when have they ever been fair about anything!
