Empty shelves at Tesco with items out of stock

I went in on Monday after work to do my weekly shop and wasnt surprised to leave without having got everything on my shopping list.  One thing in particular that they always seem to be out of stock of is Tesco Healthy Living Greek Yoghurt and many a time they have been out of Healthy Living Cranberry Juice.  So this time I decided to visit the next day hoping that they would have replenished their stock but surprise, surprise, they were still out of stock.

When I was paying for my shopping at the till I mentioned it to the lady and she said I ought to make a complaint to the Customer Services desk.  So I went up to the desk and explained to the lady that I really dont like to complain but am fed up that every time I visit this particular store that I am unable to complete my weekly shop and mentioned the obvious stock problems of Greek Yoghurt.  She said that maybe they were having problems with their supplier.  But I told her that I have never seen any stock of this particular yoghurt even though there is a clearly labelled space in the fridge for it.  I found this strange because they always seem to have stock in the Tesco 10 miles up the road, so that wasnt really an excuse.

Shopping trolly park Another moan about my local Tesco is their pricing.  I have noticed the prices slowly creeping up especially on one particular item, their Healthy Living Cranberry Juice.  It has always been 63 pence for a 1 litre carton.  Then one day whilst doing my weekly shop I noticed that it was priced at 83 pence.  I mentioned this at the till and the lady said they did seem to be putting up their prices.  When I questioned this at the Customer Services desk I was told that the price was correct and she didnt really give me a reason as to why it had gone up 20 pence in just a week. Now you can understand the prices of things going up a few pence but a whole 20 pence is just a bit much.  Funnily enough when I went in a couple of weeks later the price had changed again, this time it was 73 pence.

Back to their stock issues, you can just forget going to Tesco on a sunny Saturday in summer to get your rolls and burgers for BBQs because they will always be out of stock.  Youd think they would plan to have more stock when the weather looks set to be good.

Just what on earth do Tesco think they are playing at?  One moment they dont have stock and the next they are creeping up their prices.  I'm seriously thinking of doing my shopping elsewhere to be honest, at least Im more likely to completely my weekly shop in one go.

Who cares? Why shop at Tesco?

Why not order your food from Harrods or Fortnum and Mason?

has anyone noticed that a lot of goods in tescos do not have a price on the shelf, so you either look around for someone (Marie Céleste most times) or take a chance and not get ripped off. i have also noticed that if there is an offer in the paper and you go the same day the shelf is usually bare. this didn't just happen in one store but in the four i tried on the same day. i asked and they all said they had been out of stock for a few days. so basically i had been tricked into going in and buying something else whilst i was there. i feel tescos standards have slipped across the whole store and yes they do have eratic price changes by ridiculous amounts and as much as 30p and drop back a few weeks later. which when you do the maths over the weeks their products are a lot dearer than stated. unless you do without the product out of your weekly shop till its reduced again.

"I work for tesco and have done for the last 5 years.im 44 years old and feel about 6 most of the time the managers have no respect whatsoever for staff only the customers.."

The managers have as equally a bad attitude to customers as many of the staff do -its the same everywhere in this hole of a country

"3) Tescos is a shop, not Alladin's magic cave. No store will have every item in stock. Yes, they generally have daily deliveries, but I bet you're the same kind of person who moans when you get stuck behind one of those big delivery lorries. "

If they were managed properly they would but they never are and staff always ahve a bad attitude to the customer.

Everything is centrally run now that`s why there are so many gaps and no staff to help you it`s all about cost cutting so the company can still say it is in profit every year. The staff who work for them are expected to run around doing 10 jobs, the managers swan about and the people who suffer are the customers and staff the company is to big to care.

sick of it Tesco - 30-Aug-11 17:50

I have had similar problems at my local Tesco extra. I've also had problems with Tesco online grocery shopping. I now shop at Sainsburys. Interestingly, I did price compare like for like and discovered Sainsburys was cheaper overall! In my opinion the food quality at Sainsburys is better too. Fruit and veg seem to have a much longer life. Eg: Tesco cauliflower 2 - 3 days Sainsburys Cauliflower 5 -6 days. this wasn't a one off, and all were stored in same conditions at my house. Meat is definately better quality..finest fillet steak from tesco £7 needs trimming. Sainsburys taste the difference fillet steak £5 no trimming. I have been pleasantly surprised by Sainsburys and intend to continue shopping there.

I always have my order delivered, and there is always an item missing, they charge for two but only deliver one. Now, due to the bad weather they have not delivered today, even though our street is accessible for traffic and the main road is clear. I received an email stating that they would not be delivering today and to put my order in again when the weather gets better. but when I check my online account, it states, order delivered and they have charged me for it.

What is the point of doing online grocery shopping if when you need it most, they don't deliver it.

I too am sick and tired of Tesco running out of things, even on a Saturday morning. I waste time waiting for someone to have a look for missing stock then explaining the next delivery hasn't come in yet.
This morning I just gave up and left my half full trolly and walked out. If everyone did this leaving a note explaining that there was no point continuing as you can't get everything you need.....maybe they will make sure they have everything in stock!?
I get fed up of being fobbed off about off sales and it never seems to be a problem at Morrisons. I'm going to Morrisons later!

jenWren is a LOSER - 16-Nov-10 16:46

I work at tesco - the summer before I'm leaving for Uni - and you are right. It is never full, but the warehouse is full of stock. The reason? servilely understaffed! I have to work 5 departments on my part time shift - and tills.

The rolls and buns on sunny days is true at our store as well. that is due to not ordering enough. We usually run out at around 12:00 on a sunny day.

I cannot wait to leave this place. It's terrible.

Couldn't agree more. My 2 local stores never have Tesco's Healthy Living /Lighter Choice Burgers. These were absolutely delicious and you couldn't tell they were low fat as they were succulent and full of flavour. Tesco's promote themselves as a Healthier Choice and keep encouraging us to join their Dieting on-line, yet have stopped stocking a very good product!

I too have recently been having pricing problems with Tesco and they are always rising. I also buy Tesco Value Chicken noodles for 9p and when I went in the other day they had gone up to 14p. Also I used to buy the Tesco Value shortbread biscuits for 13p and they have jumped to 30p for a small pack in just a week..over 3 times the original price. I also mentioned this to the customer services who gave no real explanation other than the prices do change. Its really annoying making a list and making sure you have enough money and when you get there all of the prices have gone up alot. I am seriously going to shop elsewhere. I am glad that someone else is just as annoyed as me

1) Prices of products in supermarkets will and do fluctuate. I am astounded that you wasted you and the customer service's desk time by asking about a price increase on Cranberry Juice. Yes, it is annoying when prices go up, but generally there are so many factors involved in the cost of each item (availability, changes in suppliers, problems with crops, the economy etc etc). Plus, I'm certain that the customer services assistant would not be aware of all price changes.
2) Staff do not have much say in what stock comes in. I do not work for Tescos (and never have), but they don't give their staff a lot of autonomy, which means that computers are often making calculated guesses at stock levels. I won't bore you with the full details of the complex system involved in stock replenishment.
3) Tescos is a shop, not Alladin's magic cave. No store will have every item in stock. Yes, they generally have daily deliveries, but I bet you're the same kind of person who moans when you get stuck behind one of those big delivery lorries.
4) There really are bigger things to worry about in life, like world hunger and incurable diseases.
