I really hate bugs of all sorts, but particularly ones that fly.  I know this isn’t your usual type of gripe but I had to get this one off my chest.  This summer is turning out to be quite hot and there seem to be a lot more insects finding their way into the house than usual.

Okay, I’m sitting here and there’s this “thing” has quite literally just crawled across my screen.  I have no idea what it is and I have no wish to find out!  I’d just rather it wasn’t there.  The kitchen is littered with dead flies that seem to just come in and die every day.  That’s a good thing though.  I prefer them lying on their backs with their little legs in the air as opposed to flying around and landing on food etc.  The house fly is a disgusting creature.  The only problem is I have to clear up the carnage every day and I’m wondering if that insecticide that the missus sprayed everywhere is responsible for the sudden death syndrome that we are seeing here.

The housefly, sitting on someone's dinner no doubt.

Earlier this afternoon I happened to look down at the carpet and there was another “thing”.  It was about half a centimetre in length and crawled.  I couldn’t see its legs it was so small and it would only move a few inches when prodded.  It was a bug though, and it was in my home making its way across my carpet.

I hate all the other creepy crawlies including wood lice, cockroaches, mosquitoes, ants, wasps etc.  There are a few exceptions though.  I don’t mind spiders and I can just about handle bees as long as they go about their business and let me go about mine.

Spiders are tolerated because they generally keep out of your way and usually don’t intrude on your space, preferring instead to hide away in the corners and shadows.  Even better, they like to eat the bugs I hate, yes those damn flying insects again!

Moths and butterflies are okay too, although I find moths to be particularly stupid creatures. Here’s a tip though if you happen to find a few buzzing around in a room because you’ve left a light on at night with the window open.  Simply leave the window open and turn out the light.  If you close the window, you only trap them inside.  By dawn they’re drawn to the light outside and usually manage to find their way out again.  Problem solved.

I know it’s irrational and we need the bugs to pollinate plants, feed the birds etc. and generally keep everything in balance.  I also know that we as a species wouldn’t survive without them, but that doesn’t stop me disliking them, especially when they find their way into my house during the summer months.

the little brown bugs could be woodworm because they only come out in sping/summer time. Google woodworm and look at the pictures to see if they are. I have them in my house. Woodworm are a grub thing at first then when they develop wings they will fly out of the wood.
Also I have some other type of little brown bug that everyone can be talking about. I keep seeing them. They remind me of ladybirds but are a brownish/dark yellow colour, in stripes down its back. Unless it ACTUALLY is a ladybird lol. But they are smaller than a ladybird.

Think I have just worked the ladybird one out by seaching. It is a carpet beetle. Just search for it.

I bet that one of these bugs is what is in your house. Hope I have helped.

Ah yes, the bug season is upon us and summer is approaching. Flying insects, bees, wasps, flies etc. I've just discovered that we're being attacked by masonry bees - or rather the house is. Fortunately they can't sting us but they do damage to the property. Anyone know of a quick fix for these little pests?

I also have the little brown bugs with a hardish shell ..they love the house in the summer and when its very warm. But no one seems to know what they are!! They're so annoying and they're getting on my clothes and everything.

Why can't there be a bird flu like superbug that wipes out Daddy Long legs but is harmless to humans!

I hate them as I can never open my windows in the summer!

I too have lots of these small brown bugs with hard shells that seem to like window sills. I have noticed that they fly between window sills too. They have been in my house since the summer and I can't get rid of them, ant powder worked for a while but they now seem imune to it. Does anybody know what they are yet?

Up in the north-east where I'm from, my mother remembers when those nasty things would come out at night. She called them blacklocks. I'm not sure if thats the proper name for them though but hope it helps!

Hi - our cottage, which is over four hundred years old and full of gaps between skirting boards, ancient crumbly walls and pitted wood beams - has just been invaded by smallish (about half to three-quarters of an inch long) black beetles. If you put the lights on suddenly at night, there are a dozen of the horrible bugs, crawling across the carpet. They have longish, rather flat bodies, and they fly - or hurtle. I can tolerate them downstairs, but last night they were in the bedroom, flying up, and then tumbling down onto the carpet, and even - horror - onto the bed. In the morning they're nowhere to be seen. Are they the result of this very wet summer - or a growing phenomenon, due to global warning? And what are they?

I too get irritated by the huge numbers of flying insects and bugs in the house in the summer. Particularly house flies - buzzing around your head and of course they're a pain to deal with without resorting to a can of raid. I'm not really into killing them, I just wish they wouldn't come in the house in the first place.

Now I heard that there are a number of things you can do to stop them flying in, one of them being a clear plastic bag full of water hung near the doorway. Alas it hasn't worked at all for me - unless I'm just doing it wrong. Anybody got any other good ideas for keeping unwanted guests out of the house? Please post your tips up here.

when will we ever have homes with fly screens so that we may open our windows in the summer evenings with the lights on without being invaded. I went to stay at my daughter's for two days and when I came back because my other daughter had been staying with me and left all the windows open and lights on my carpets were littered with dead small flies. The week before I was invaded by ants. I have never seen anything like this in the 17 years I have lived in my flat, what is happening!
