Front fog lights irritate other drivers
|
In this country, I can count on one hand, the number of times I have driven in fog that required fog lights in the LAST TEN YEARS. And, on a motorway, I was doing 20mph because I could not SEE far enough to go any faster. The vehicles I could see in front of me (less than 40 yards away) with their fog lights on were a blur, just visible. On the rare occasions that this happened, it was some of the most frightening times I have ever spent behind a steering wheel! |

People think that they look "cool"
Now, rear fogs lights you don't see as often these days; still there's the odd one or two idiots who have forgotten that they have them, like blinding people, or maybe they just don't care... but the FRONT fogs lights have REALLY kicked off. People think they look "cool". |

A lot of the time, they're misaligned, so that they shine up higher than they should and that makes them appear even brighter. They should illuminate the road out to the sides of the car and about 20 yards ahead. They don't have beam shaping like headlamps do, meaning that they aren't dipped to the right and high on the left. They are NOT an adequate substitute for properly adjusted, properly used headlamps. So WHY do people use them the way they do? In fact, I don't want to know why - I want you to turn them off. Now. Or I'll smash them! By: Stonelaughter |

Would like to see a series of signposts labelled "Free Money" directing to the top of Beachy Head - all of these lemmings would doubtless follow....
Curious to see how short your posts need to be...
What I asked for was the facility to write short posts as well.
Don't like long posts?
Don't read them then.
there are some important things that we as driver's of automobile,s need to practice in order to respect the eye's of oncoming
driver's in nightime driving situations Fog lamps are supplied on many newer vehicles however these should not be used in clear weather and or nightime situations Because there is an increase of lighting being projected from the front of our vehicles towards the eyes of the other approaching driver,s Most vehicles now have the ability built in to the vehicle to allow operation of the fog lamps alone and the operation of rear vehicle tailamp.s and front park lamps, most common sense and properly written Motor Vehicle regulations will allow the use of fog lamps in place of the low beam lamps Because of lamps are normally being aimed lower so as to better peer under the fog, use of low and high beam is sometimes useless in foggy conditions because of the white light glowing backwards off the fog moisture particles into the eyes of the vehicle driver, amber colored fog lamps seem to work better because of less light spatter back into the eye,s of the driver using the fog lamps and the amber colored light is easier on the eyes of the oncoming drivers
The motor Vehicle regulations need to be re written to allow law enforcement to issue citaton's to drivers that drive around with fog lamps lit in clear weather or at nightime when the weather is clear.
Auxillary driving lamp's must be operated from the high beam light operation only so that the added light operates when the most seeing distance is required ahead of the vehicle at night, and to ensure that the auxillary driving lamps cannot be operated on Low beam operation to protect the eye's of the oncoming driver's
Frequent road side police Vehicle inspection's are required to catch and correct improper wiring and switching that allow the lights to be operated in a manner that decrease,s public safety and allows a disrespect to the eye's of the oncomimg driver's and allow a blinding headlamp situation that can create road rage and set up a head on collision accident waiting to occur
Some of the early Daytime Running lamp.s installed on vehicles allow the daytime running lamps to be lit in the daytime and then at the nightime they are called fog lamps and or Auxillary driving lamps and the operator has no means of shutting the lamps off
to respect the eyes of oncoming motorist's and or meet properly written and safe Motor Vehicle regulations that are supposed to be there for the protection of all drivers you and I
there is a great need to ensure that all vehicles have their headlamp alignment inspected in the following conditions
(1) when the unit is new fresh from the factory
(2) any time weight has been added to the vehicle ie. Canopy. winch, tool box, fuel tank, welder
or a deck that is used for carrying weight
(3) when the unit is used for towing trailers,
(4) anytime repairs are completed to the suspension of vehicle ( new springs etc. accident's)
(5) when the unit ages and there is settlement of the suspension ( 3-5 years)
as drivers we have the responsibility dim our lights when meeting oncoming vehicles, and when following vehicles to prevent our headlamps from blinding other's who share the roadway system
as a matter of common courtesy and to lower the risk's of creating accident's

But when do they have time for any of that when their showbiz reporters are constantly mincing on and on and on about Kate, Shitely Prancing, X Factor, Kate, More Kate, Shitely Prancing, Cheryl (nation's sweetheart, don't forget), Kate, Yet More Kate, Cheryl, and yes, you guessed it, even more Kate!
High calibre......you did make me laugh a lot at that one!
What gems do we have today, hmmm, let me see:

Wow, Coleen's hair!! That certainly is high calibre, you're right.
I also blame the Daily Mail as its editorial comment, and coverage of current affairs, is of such a high calibre that a Chav, or a member of the great unwashed, that reads it (by mistake?) is consumed with such feelings of inadequacy and inferiority that they take it out on Joe Public, by displaying even more examples of their coarse behaviour.
That is, of course, assuming the driver HAD the ability in the first place. Which isn't always the case.
It's like everything nowadays, the suggestion of regulation has to be made as people aren't willing (or capable) of controlling themselves.
I blame the Daily Mail.
In reality, they are dangerously, ignorantly and inconsiderately dazzling other road users (in front and oncoming), which poses and obvious danger.
I used to flash my lights at perpetrators but there are so many of them now I'd be flashing all the time!
The irony is, when it actually is foggy, they won't put their front and/or rear fog lights on. I also notice, quite often, they have other lights which are faulty or misaligned.
One answer I can think of is to have fog lights which turn automatically on when visibility is under 100 metres, taking the ability away from the driver. We already have auto headlights and windscreen wipers.
Changing the subject sightly but I've said for years that a good way to stop people using mobile 'phones while driving is to create service interference while the engine is running; in other words, the car has to be stopped and the engine off before they can make a call or send a text.
Good.
Now for the other 10,000 brain dead cretins who can't think for themselves - they need the police to tell them.
woody: You think that lights don't dazzle so long as they're under the dipped beams? That does make you sound blonde in the extreme.
If your dipped headlights are insufficient, get them sorted out. You can legally get brighter bulbs and you can re-aim your headlights (within legal parameters). MOT centres are pretty bad when it comes to lights sometimes. I worked out with a bit of trigonometry that with my Mondeo, the difference between the upper and lower MOT limits on headlight angle meant the difference between seeing 25m or 120m.
I was breathalised with a zero reading.
Now the police said these lights shouldn't be on as they dazzle.
I didn't question this & just apologised & they just warned me about it.
But I am still confused as to how a low beam light can dazzle.
Dipped headlights never dazzle (unless set wrong).
So if fog lights are below dipped headlights, how can they dazzle?
The bulb in the fog light seems less bright than the dipped headlight.
Now everywhere I've read to clear this confusion has just repeated the same thing over & over again..
"they think they look cool".
No I don't. My headlight bulbs have been replaced on my C3 & there is so much moisture in the unit that they are not good enough. I don't know what the answer is to this other than replacing a few hundred pound unit every time a bulb goes?
Hence I found that on single roads at night, the fog lights help no end.
These things are being used in a similar style that is seen in most dick swinging competitions. They serve virtually no purpose except to draw attention to the budget rally car they adorn and the low intelligence gimp that is driving it.
Rear fogs have a limited use which is cancled out by those idiots who leave them turned on in clear conditions.
