The houses of parliament, Tony Blair and the Labour Party

My gripe is about the Labour Party and Tony Blair.  Why is Tony Le Magnifique such as a Francophile [Frenchie admirer]?  He speaks their language, goes there for holidays and wants to have Frenchie culture over here.  I used to think that things were the other way round and Mr Blair held the French at arms length, apparently not it would seem.

And another thing, what is with these new continental licensing hours?  If we leave it up to Mr Blair we are likely to loose our own cultural identity and become just another 'France clone' member country of mother Europe.  That isn't the kind of country I want to live in and I don't think we will prosper with that kind of scene over here.

I DO NOT think he would be too happy to adopt other aspects of their culture like taking 2 hour lunch breaks, having dozens more public holidays, or going on strike at the drop of a beret?  Not likely Mr Blair!

On a slightly different note regarding the Labour Party, why on earth should we accept Gordon Brown as the new leader of our country?  It's not right that the Labour Party can just shoehorn in a new leader without allowing a democratic vote.  This change is not just for members of the Labour Party, but the whole country.  After all he will be our Leader, our Ambassador.  We didn't vote for him and we might not want him!

Bliar, yes he who went to war on the basis of a school boy report of weapons of mass destruction written by his unelected PR lacky.

Hopefully Karma will catch up soon

President Bliar: No, that's not a typo - that is how I choose to spell the name of the worst politician of the last 20 years; although the current incumbent is gaining ground rapidly. My gripe is that we seem to be allowing this smug, superficial, hypocritical disgrace even more power influence and money by heading inexorably towards the presidency of the EU. What is that anyway?

This man has brought disgrace to the Labour party - New Labour, do me a favour. What small corners of greed, hubris and overweening arrogance this warmongering,self-serving toad hasn't cornered for himself, his wife has snapped up. The late, great John Peel ducked out of a Radio 1 event to avoid meeting a man who he felt betrayed so many of the Labour principles that John held dear - a classy, understated and honest response which did John great credit. I would like to buy a drink to the man who, on BBC1's Question Time referred to him as "The MP for Texas North" to the then PM's great displeasure - nice one! Finally, a newspaper columnist recently suggested that the reason his wife caught Swine Flu is due to having her snout in the trough for so long.

What really ticks me off is that we seem - in a democracy - to be condoning this behaviour.
Apart from a useless,control-freak and (morally, financially and ethically) bankrupt government, the other legacy that New Labour has left is that everything in business these days seems to be predicated on talking a good game, spin and false promises. Actual delivery of results seems to take second place to appearance.

Are we losing our collective minds that we allow ourselves to be deluded by these people? Polished liars are liars nonetheless.

M. I think the whole country benefitted under Thatcher, with wealth that was created and that encouraged investers from abroad to put money into this country. I dont say all was perfect, what government is perfect, non of them, but a lot of needed changes happened. If we hadnt had those changes and the created wealth, the current Labour Government would have started just about where we are now and then brought us down even further into the mire. Just think about if the Labour Government dont get in next time, what a legacy for any newly elected government, with all the black hole of debts we have now, and having to try and crawl out of that black hole. The next government will be blamed for decades for the woes of the country and thats a shame because it will not be their fault, but some voters wont see that, only the problems. People have short memories.

"Yes, because it worked!"

Well that might be true if you lived in the south of England and had money!

You can always tell the out and out radical hardened (probably a union man) hard nut labourites by the way they say things. I refer you to seth and his comments (to which of course he is entitled, I would never take that right from him). They always seem to come up with blaming Maggie Thatcher for everything. That is probably because she squashed the power of the unions singlehanded. That is what is at the heart of all their gripes about her, their lack of power now. Herself and successive conservative governments left a legacy of wealth that this Current Labour government have totally squandered, with Labour professing that they have built up this nations wealth to what it was (I say 'was' cos we have nothing now and thats all down to them. They can't blame any one else) when in actual fact they havn't, they were left that legacy of wealth.
As for Tony Blair, I wish I had put a bet on at the beginning of his first term, that said he was not interested in this country at all (wheres our referendum on europe) only in furthering his ambition; probably to be the president of the euopean union; so he could be even more powerful but this time with lots of dosh that MEPs get. The job he's got now is close to the above and certainly as well paid. Please don't get me started on saying anything about his wife or we will be here all day, surfice to say another money grubber.

It is the Uk drifting towards Stanist Russia or National Socialist pre 1939-45 war that concerns me most.

Tony Blair's little france - you've got to be kidding right? This guy has done more for this country than pretty much any other prime minister I can remember? Would you rather go back to the days of Thatcher and every man for themselves, or is that every woman for themselves - as long as they own their own house and are quite happy to sink foreign hospital ships!

Damn. People have so much to learn.

Why does having more liberal licensing hours make us 'just another France clone'? It puts licensing in the hands of local authorities rather than central government, and all power to local authorities, I say.

Personally I'd be happy if the UK became more like France instead of drifting towards America, can the UK be any worse?
