Cruelty to cats really makes me sick
It makes me sick when I hear how some people in this country can be so cruel to animals, particularly cats. All too frequently there are stories in the news of cruelty and horrible deaths and it has just got to be stopped.
Whilst on my routine journey home after work yesterday I switched on the radio as usual. The news came on and I could not believe what I was hearing, my guts completely turned and it brought tears to my eyes. Two youths in the town where I live, had thrown a young 7-month-old cat in front of a car and filmed the sick incident on their mobile phones. Unfortunately when they were confronted by the driver of the car they ran off and so will not be punished for being so cruel to a helpless little kitten.
Happy slapping
seems to be the latest craze amongst youths. I can not get my head around how anyone can be so sick and wrong in the head to actually go and do something like that and worst of all capture it on video.
These mini-snuff movies involving cruelty to animals (that are apparently doing the rounds on a lot of mobile phones) are just completely sick and degrade the standards that humans are supposed to set.
I mean it makes you wonder what sort of parents these sick individuals have. I thought we were meant to be a nation of animal lovers. They should catch these kids, severely punish them and then put them on a list so that they are never allowed to keep animals. In fact, if I had it my way they would never be capable of owning an animal because if I caught someone doing this kind of stuff their final moments would be very painful. I would be prepared to do time!
To give you some idea how widespread this problem is Ive compiled a list of similar stories from the BBC News web site. Have a look at these and then tell me you dont care!
(PUBLISHER NOTE: The cat shown in these photos is not connected in any way to this incident or any of these stories, as far as I'm aware 'Mogsi' is still alive and well and living with my ex! He always did like posing for a photograph though.)News Stories Cats attacked and killed

Sally
The obfuscation of your comments must because you are of a bibulous nature.
Or you are quite mad, or just a tosser.
‘Not enough room to swing a cat’
They are therefore to be congratulated, for passing this knowledge on to people who are illiterate, but who can gain knowledge by way of a visual demonstration.
Tossers
Hence, Buxom *yke loses the argument. Next!

Sally
The word tossers springs to mind.
It has been proved over and over again that people who are cruel to animals are the same people who abuse children. If you genuinely believe what you are saying then you should get help before you hurt someone. If it was a joke, grow up.
One, the point about the cat being swung by its tail as reflecting bad behaviour, and two, the problem of cats impacting upon the wildlife. It is, of course, entirely possible to have some sympathy with your second point, whilst at the same time condemning the extreme cruelty of the young, moronic thug swinging the cat around by its tail.
sigh!

All domestic cats should be slaughtered to save the local wildlife.
Why do all these chav scum look alike? It’s as if someone extruded them from a sausage machine, all the same, all depressingly disgusting and aggressive. I cannot stand cowards or bullies, and I loathe cruelty to animals.
I used to dislike the term “chav” as I saw it as a way for privileged people to look down on the poor and badly educated working classes but these people are a class apart and have nothing to do with ordinary decent working class people.

Next time my spade across its head.
Great minds think alike!
I think a lot of posters would like a gripe where they can comment on the big news story of the day/week without hijacking other threads so I think it could work very well.
You didn't leave an email address so I could respond to you directly. But in response to:
"I would like to suggest that we have a 'News of the day' or the 'Hot topic' thread for whatever is currently the big item in the news"
VERY weird coincidence!
I have a new section coming up called "Gripe The News". It was due to go live before I went on holiday (I'm in Scotland just now and far away from the riots - just a shame about the wet weather). Anyway, I shall get that live as soon as I can when I get back. I originally started putting it together in July. Still a little bit to do on it but I'm glad it might not be a totally lame idea.
Thanks again for the feedback, it is always appreciated and although progress is sometimes slow and I can't do it all I do take it on board.
P.S. Sorry for the lack of gripes published this week. I'm having some time off. My day job stresses me more than TWG - mainly because it doesn't leave enough time to spend on the site.

A "plain", on the other hand, is a large area of flattish land; nobody talks of ascending to a higher one through meditation! (A plateau of course being a "higher plain" as it's flat land on top of a mountain.)
I Like Birds used the wrong one.

Secondly, I have no idea what G.O.W means so it's wasted on me!
And lastly, it's nice to know that you still cannot resist responding to every post I write. It's very flattering, thank you!
"Physician heal thyself"
A bit like fishing, you just have to use the right bait, in this case just say CATS
"Everything is relative" is a fairly meaningless statement but if you want to see things that way then the amount of damage to the environment caused by cats is minute compared with the damage done by humans.
Cats don't cut down entire old growth forests, release billions of gallons of oil into the oceans, contaminate huge tracts of land or sea with radioactive waste or clear cut irreplaceable rain forest harbouring as yet unidentified plants that might have provided cures for fatal or debilitating illnesses.
They are not responsible for any of the things listed in my previous post.
Essentially your argument is why don't we ignore the mountain and demonise the molehill.
