After years of saving and thousands of pounds of borrowing I have bought my first house.  I work hard, pay my taxes and abide by the laws of the land.

This is why I get so annoyed when there are so many criminals getting away with absolutely anything.  Near where I live, there is a council estate, now don’t get me wrong because I am not having a go at all people who live in council houses.  Unfortunately however, there are a select few that feel the need to ride their stupid and probably stolen, quad bikes on public land.  I wouldn’t mind if it was land that was for set aside for such pursuits, but it is not in this case.

They ride on footpaths, over private drives, people’s lawns and pretty much wherever they like. The police have been called on so many occasions by a number of people, but nothing is ever actually done to stop this crazy behaviour!  These people aren't insured they don't care if they damage other people’s property!  The way things are going I suspect it won’t be long until someone is seriously hurt or even worse, killed by one of these things.

England is growing to be a country with a bit of a thug culture because we are too soft on criminals.  They don’t care that they are breaking the law.  They don’t fear jail, because it’s nice and cosy for them when they get in, and then of course when they get out it’s nice and cosy with their benefits that we pay for.  I think we should have more of a say in what the tax is spent on, I certainly wouldn’t want it spent on criminals.

Thugs a menace on a quadbike

I personally think we should bring back National service to get these kids off the street and get them doing something useful.

Near where you live there is a council estate. Are the people riding these bikes from this estate? Or did you just mention it to set the scene of unruly kids from run down estates terrorising an innocent rural area. The reality is that crime rates are increasing, the purportraitors getting younger nd they are also coming from a diversity of backgrounds. The fact that you said 'don't get me wrong' indicates you know exactly what you are inferring.

I mentioned in a previous posting that as people were becoming frustrated with the rising crime figures, the vigilantes would appear.Well, in my little village they did, and I may add they cleared all of the brain dead off the street in 10 days, there were no weapons used, apart from phone cams and black fibre tipped markers. An elderly couple, one of which was in a wheel chair had been to the post office to draw their pensions, on their way home they were confronted by 10 yobs who thought they had more right to their pensions than the elderly couple, the one in the wheel chair was left lying on the footpath, this event was seen by two young builders, one of which was the grandson of the elderly couple,he, with the help of six of his pals decided to meet the yobs head on.The following night the yobs gathered and began the usual job of breaking windows etc, the grandson went and asked them to keep the noise down,he was immediatly surrounded by the rest of the gang, unknown to them the six pals had surrounded them, to say the yobs were petrified would be an under statement, each one had his photograph taken, under protest I may add,the marker pens were used to write on their faces what they were guilty of,for example,I slash car tyres, I mug old women, I break windows,I use foul language. The photographs have been kept for future reference. theres been no trouble since and this happened the week before christmas..

I think the problem is that Britain (like the USA) is more concerned with rights than law & order. In the old days those thugs would've been knocked off their bikes, clobbered, and had the bikes smashed up.

... And have you heard the latest on the government's "tough on crime" policy - yes I say "policy" because as usual there is no "execution" behind the paper work - the sentence should be based on space available in the prison - not based on the crime committed. So those thugs who live in high crime areas have already won.

I really don't want to leave this lovely island but even here on top of the Cambrian Mountains - I know it's only a matter of time before it starts encroaching. No recorded crime to date in this area according to insurance companies - then again there are no people for many miles.

Wether we agree with capital punishment or not, something has got to be done, adeterrant has got to be found to stop our country slipping further into a state of anarchy,as we are already on a downward spiral. Our mamby pamby politicians are a waste of time as we are now govened by Brussels. As crime continues to rise the vigilante,s will appear as people have had enough of standing by waiting of someone coming up with a solution.Prisons and ASBO,s have been proved pointless, otherwise lags would,nt reoffend ASBO,s are now looked upon as badges of honour,so I would suggest wether one is for or against capital punishment to come up with an alternative, otherwise, grin and bear it,as it wont go away

Tramp, it's not a Police Force anymore, it stopped being a Force many years ago.

There's no deterrent in this country. Fire should be met with fire. We need someone like George Bush in power. When he was Governor of Texas, he signed over 180 death warrants, he doesn't mess about. If you are prepared to take a life then don't be shocked if you should have to give your life.

well im so glad that I found this topic as like the rest of the comments where I live has a
lawless thug population quads & scooters 247 at speed no respect
spineless police force in fact I believe they have all retired,
as for the local mp well as some of you have stated they take there salarys but do nowt for it

foot note there will come a time sadly when vigilante squads will appear & then what ???
*tramp  31-Aug-2007 14:07

Yes, David, re - 'doing something about it'. I wouldn't want to be in a political party though. How about vigilante groups visiting each others area and sorting out a few of them? How about heating up the factories that profit from this? Only joking, of course...but the little thugs and the police could drive any decent person to it.

"They don’t fear jail, because it’s nice and cosy for them when they get in,"

Have you ever been in a cell? Trust me its anything but 'cosy'...
*niby  21-Jun-2007 14:18

But that's the point isn't it? National Service is not supposed to be a walk in the park. Of course the thugs would hate it - but it may actually teach them some respect and decency. Why should they be allowed to do what they like, knowing they can get away with it? I agree with capital punishment too - life for a life should mean just that. Not a few years on good behaviour - when they supposedly show remorse and appear to be rehabilitated. How many do we hear about that just go out and do it again?
*Jo  27-Apr-2007 19:29

I don't agree with national service.. I mean, as someone who finds physical exercise (Specifically running/jogging) a hard, painful, and embarrassing experience, I would hate to go into service. Then again, I've never done anything wrong. Perhaps some kind of three strike system could be implemented? Although I'm sure that could be abused by a particularly vindictive bully.Fr
