I read in the news recently that oil giant BP has unveiled record first-half profits on the back of rising world demand for oil.  The price of petrol at the pump is climbing through the roof and yet they still have to rub our faces in it with this announcement.  In the headlines today it was reported that the cost of a barrel of crude oil is above $65 for the first time on record.  What will BP do now?  Will they announce a windfall for their shareholders just to rub salt into the wounds?

It just makes my blood boil, because every other day on the way to work when I stop for petrol, I see yet again that the price of fuel has crept up a little.  We know that demand for oil has increased due to developing countries.  We also know that there are supply problems because of wars and natural events and therefore expect price increases from time to time.  We do not appreciate however, the major oil companies such as BP, Shell, Texaco and Esso etc...

Petrol station, high fuel prices, petrol prices too high

price of petrol going up... makes us resentful

Flaunting their bloated profits right in front of us whilst the price of petrol is going up at the pumps.  It makes us very resentful, and fuel protests of 2000 showed that we are more than capable of making them sit up and take notice if we have to.

Oh and let us not forget the cut our government gets in the form of fuel tax!  We don’t see them stepping in to help us out do we?

If they actually took all that money and ploughed it into researching alternative forms of energy such as hydrogen storage or fuel cells, it would be quite acceptable.  I get the feeling that it is being squandered somewhere else instead though.

When the price of oil goes up, petrol prices go up...

The bottom line is, when the price of oil goes up, petrol prices go up, so too does the cost of living.  It costs more to manufacture and transport goods, so industry tends to naturally pass that on to you and me, the consumer!  Because of our dependence on oil we’re slowly being squeezed from all directions.

Thanks to the greed of the major oil companies, not forgetting of course our money grubbing government; we work hard to earn a living so that we can line the pockets of some fat cat scoundrels who are busy telling us how much money they have made out of us!

There’s absolutely no justice anymore. So maybe it's time for blockades at the refinery and go-slow convoys on the motorway again.

Some bad news, China's petrol usage is rocketing upwards and can only continue to do so, this may only mean one thing, the price in the UK may be going up even more,

Some good news, we should be striking oil in the next few weeks in the Falklands (uk) this crude oil hopefully can be shipped straight to the UK for refining.

People it is time for another petrol strike! eaither close the stations and stop them making money or everyone on one day needs to steal it! if 100,000 people went into a petrol station with no number plates and steals the fuel they will get the message! we all moan but no one organises it! Get off u backsides and sort a petition, a riot, I dont care but do something like I am trying to do!

And what happened to pump prices being shown on motorway signs so that you can avoid BP garages without a diversion to checkout their customer rip-off prices?

Why does BP have a 100 mile monopoly on service stations on the M1 from Northampton to Tibshelf where they think it;s OK to charge £1.24 per litre for unleaded? BOYCOTT BP. They deserve no customer loyalty at all. My local ASDA charges £1.11.

might have to realise the government has given the whole of the uk a big jump in VAT off for the last year... the money had to come from somewhere it couldnt be magiced up out of nowhere... they should have put the VAT up slowly say 1% per so many months to bring it back gradually... they say they want to cut emmisions etc but if everyone today were to stop using cars and try to use public transport the country would grind to a halt! Getting taxed twice on petrol is also a complete swiz! But british people seem to do nothing but moan and take no action... the very same people who rioted in the past are still kicking around so has that spark been wiped out for good!? something needs to be done about just about everything and all of this just seems to be leading to the conservatives getting into power as some sort of quick fix... whoever gets into power next will seem to be fixing things as the only way is UP from where we are at the moment... and those who remember will realise this has all happened before and will all happen again... just stop moaning about it all and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT that is the only way something might change...

I agree about MPs with their snouts in the expenses trough but your solution to petrol prices isn’t going to help much.

You say take the tax off of petrol and put in on alcohol, cigarettes and fattening food because those things are the cause of all the evil in our world. (I don’t recall any news stories of Mars bar munching car thieves, rapists and muggers but I’ll let that go).

You go on to say that no one would pay £1.50 for a bar of chocolate or £10 for 10 cigs. If everyone stopped buying the cigs and chocolate there wouldn’t be any increased revenue would there? I don’t smoke by the way and never have but I do light up the occasional chocolate bar.

I dont get paid to rent a flat/2nd home close to my workplace, nor do I get any sort of expenses reimbursement for me trasvelling to and from work everyday. I do not get my lunch paid for, never mind a 'food allowance'. If I want to decorate my home, I do it out of the £17k I earn per year.

I have to travel to work in my 1.4 307 paying about 102.9p per litre of petrol of which something like 70p+ (?) per litre pays goes to the gov as well as all my other paid taxes...and yes I have to drive as public transport would take me 1hr 30mins instead of 15 mins in the car.

When MPs are earning £30k+ per year, ALL their expenses more or less are paid by us, what is their wage for? I thought that is why we were to study hard, get good jobs and earn lots and lots...to be able to afford all the things we want to buy?...

Why not take the tax off petrol and put it all on cigs and booze. I love all you smokers and drinkers out there but if these two things are the primary cause of evil in our society...why not? and come to think of it...chocolate, buscuits, sweets, fast food, fizzy drinks etc etc etc...the gov is soooooooo worried about obesity, who would buy a bar of 30g chocolate for £1.50? box of 10 cigs £10, 20 £20... the way petrol prices are going, something needs to be done or our country will literally grind to a holt.

Part two, they are going to take tax of the population one way or another, they need so much to keep the bone idle in benefits, this way, the over paid and criminals of all kinds pay.
